Guess what ,yup it's raining again. A short drive and it's another ferry from Earls Cove to Saltery Bay. The weather breaks for a bit and we do a small hike to some water falls. and then some lunch. A stop in Powell River for coffee and some post cards. A few minutes out of town we stop at the Pulp Mill and take a few shots of a unique breakwater that is formed from ten large ships chained together. Some from WW1, the Charleston and the Huron, plus four concrete ships purchased from the US Maritime Commission. Some ships ballasts are filled with gravel, but mostly with water. They are anchored with 16 ton concrete anchors, eight to ten per ship. The anchors are connected to the hulks with massive chains weighing 55 pounds per foot. Even with all that every five to ten years the ships need to be repositioned due to movement. We make it to the end of the Sunshine Coast hwy or the start to a small place called Lund. As we settle for the night we start to hear the sound of bagpipes coming from up the hill. It's the camp owner, she tells us she has been playing a few years and is getting ready for something that is going on in Powell River on Sunday.
